About Me

“An atheist is a man who has no invisible means of support.”
John Buchan, Lord Tweedsmuir

I am a forty-something “agnostic atheist”. That’s as accurate as I can get, I think.  If I were to describe my positions with the prevailing labels, I would say I started as a Christian, (Methodist) segued into a vague non-denominational Christian, became a deist……then became an agnostic…then realized I was an atheist. I still cringe at the term. Probably the stereotype that reverberates is the image of a belligerent, caustic Madalyn Murray O’Hair, bombastically calling for an end to school-led prayer. That’s what most people think of when they hear the word ATHEIST. It’s unfortunate.

The page structure is evolving gradually, with most of my de-conversion narrative appearing in the Journey Into Freethought section.  This may develop into a more traditional blog, but at present it is developing the look and feel of topical website with “really good” comment capabilities!  I look forward to comments and hope that readers will participate.

My instinct is to create one huge 5000 word blog post with all the main stuff – but I ain’t gonna do it. I will try to break the posts up into sections. That way I can be verbose and it won’t show as much! <g>
